what is it about their work that makes a "good" comic book. 2 points

 


After reading some of the featured artists' work for this week, I saw significant patterns in each work. I have heard from many others why many of these comics are so appealing and transcendent. I think that the comic I enjoyed the most was the ducktail series. I have never read the Ducktales comics, but these characters are timeless and icons created by Carl Barks's storytelling. With his storytelling, you get to know the characters' personalities quite well in a short amount of time. The comic was so wholesome with these cute animal characters, but each story made me feel very invested in their stories. I wanted to see each adventure with these characters and environments to the end. I enjoyed the suspense to make the reader want to turn the iconic page, characters, and their clear relationships, High adventure, and mystery. These ideas seem to be a common theme between these series with these characters in order to make an appealing comic. And the stories did not become too repetitive. Each one I read did feel new and refreshing with new obstacles and trials. The world-building is quite amazing. Carl Bark's uses the relationships of their goals, enemies, and families. It is similar to our world, but the people are animals. The relationships feel natural like they have been there for years and the characters bounce off each other very well, and the conversation feels very natural and fun. The relationships and adventure build the stories world. When reading the stories, I felt something for each character, even for the villains Glomgold and Goldie, when they lost to Scoogemcduck. I would Defiantly keep reading these stories to learn more about these characters, which I think proves that these are good comic with good storytelling.

Underground Comics Movement the book, Rebel Visions: The Underground Comix Revolution (5 points)

 I was a bit surprised to read such fun and inviting into telling teen kids that they can read this like an adult, and then the first comic was an allegory for world war II with cats and mice. I did not even see any jokes within the comic, which I am grateful for with this subject matter; however, it was just a little sadder of a star than I thought it would be.  I feel like some adult cartoon comedy shows are today where they say many curse words and profanity, and they call it jokes. They want to see the worst they can get away with it. The comic industry was very tight with its code of conduct, and many comics are for kids. I make sense that many underground comic artists were those exposed o the effects of the war of Vietnam, Martin Luther King Jr, riots, and many other extreme events in the 1960-70s. Read Fun home : ( 6 points )  I finally read Fun Home for the first time. The story reminds me of Maus, but the story is being told by the daughter as posed to the father telling his own story. So we do not know which is exaggerated in second-hand memories.  The descriptions the narrator uses to describe their relationship with their childhood home and family is fascinating. They use many greek myths and stories to describe their relationship with their father, and they describe their home as the labyrinth with how large it is, and their father as the monitor, as children scared to turn the corner of the house, they may run into him.  This perfectionist looks the dad has, focusing on the smallest things. He is almost robotic and hyper-fixated on the house, for it was the only thing he felt he could control.
